Coronavirus & Department Update
What you need to know:
Do we still have Baseball & Softball Practice?
Due to the recent Coronavirus (COVID-19) Outbreak in the United States, we at Loris Parks, Recreation, & Tourism will be suspending ALL programs immediately until further notice. We have been monitoring the situation daily and shortly following the closing of South Carolina Schools this decision was made.
From this point on, all youth baseball and softball practices and games are suspended until further notice. NO EXCEPTIONS. We will continue to keep a close eye on the situation as it develops and communicate with you any updates we have. We will be re-evaluating the situation in 2-3 weeks and will release a statement regarding the rest of the season at that time.
Will the season be cancelled and what about refunds?
Right now, Dixie Baseball and Softball are working to extend the season to accommodate the delay due to the outbreak. This means that they plan to move all of the post season tournaments to a later date to allow the season to still be played.
Refunds will not be processed at this time. The department is still monitoring the situation as it develops to determine if we will be able to restart programs at a later date. If, for whatever reason, we are unable to have a baseball or softball season then the department will refund registration fees to those currently registered for the season.
The department plans to do everything, with in reason, to still have a baseball and softball season but right now it is still to early to make any decisions.
When will we be able to practice or play games again?
The department will be following the decisions and recommendations made by the CDC, Federal Government, State of South Carolina, Horry County Schools, the National High School League and the City of Loris. Based on their decisions and recommendations we will make the determination to resume normal activities at a later date. As always, the safety of our participants, parents, coaches, officials, and staff is our top priority and will weigh heavily on any decision we make.
In the meantime, we ask that you stay informed on the situation, develop and maintain good hygiene habits to avoid infection, and avoid highly attended events if possible.
What about travel ball tournaments?
The City of Loris and the Loris Parks, Recreation & Tourism Department has suspended all tournaments at our facilities until further notice.
